Excerpts

What do y’all think of excerpts for upcoming books? I don’t like to read them because then I want the book RIGHT NOW. But others do like the teasers, snippets and ability to gossip about what the characters are up to. Fairy Bite won’t be out until May-ish, but I’d like to do a cover poll and, if you’d like, I could provide an excerpt.

Let me know your thoughts on this deep and important topic.

Fairy Bite

Shunned and ridiculed ever since a fairy mistakenly bit her, Ally leaves her village knowing it’s the only way her family can resume their normal lives and be respected. She heads to Wendal, hoping the shifters there won’t care about the little problems associated with the effects of a fairy bite.

Before she is even halfway there, she discovers that the fairies may not be finished ruining her life. If she wants to leave Birk, she’ll first have to contend with the little people, a very ornery gargoyle, more than one prince and, of all things, an enraged dragon.

What am I working on?

I’m quite certain y’all are on the edge of your seats, wondering DAILY what book I might write next. I know I wonder about it all the time…probably a bad sign…but I’ve always written stories by the seat of my pants, never knowing where they might wander. At this point, it’s safe to say I’m working on Fairy Bite, the third book in the Dragons of Wendal series. Yes, that would be the series that was only going to be a short story. Then it was only going to be a stand alone novel.

Well, here we are with me working on the third and final book in the series. Fairy Bite, like the others, will be cozy/fantasy/romance/possibly young adult, but not too young. Notice how this series doesn’t like to leave out a single genre.

The book should be out late April/May 2017. I’ll commence complaining about editing chores on it any day now. Here’s the blurb to keep you on the edge of your seat.

Fairy Bite

Shunned and ridiculed ever since a fairy mistakenly bit her, Ally leaves her village in hopes that once gone, her family can resume their normal lives and be respected.

Bargain: Fantasy

This might be a cozy fantasy or it could be a thriller fantasy. All I know is that it sounds fun. Warlock’s All and Sundry. Fun cover too. I like it.

Welcome to Warlock’s Bar and Grille, where the Witches, Warlocks, Werewolves, Valkyries, Fairies, Vampire Roofers, and Trolls of New Oslo gather to eat, drink, gamble, and gossip. In New Oslo, anything can happen.

The owners of Warlock’s Bar and Grille, Warlock Abel Crochet, and his Witch-wife Mary Mistral, unintentionally attract the dark magic of a Black Fairy that puts Mary and their daughter Gay in danger.

With the help of the good, magical citizens of New Oslo, Abel must find a way to reverse the curse or he will never see his wife or daughter again.

A Great Bargain

savingThis entire boxed set is only 99 cents and it comes recommended by April the Dragon–she said the first book had a character that reminded her of Amelia Peabody (one of THE FINEST characters of all time, I might add). I’ve already downloaded the first, but now this! All three for 99 cents! EDITED TO ADD: I’ve read the first two. Definitely makes the list of great books under five! I enjoyed them both!

Society for Paranormals

It’s also available at Kobobooks but you might need a coupon to get the lower price. For my updated list of coupons, see the list here. The link can always be found on the left sidebar halfway down this page under Book Links. I keep it updated as I find new Kobo books coupons!

Edited to add another find: Prince of Tides is only 9 cents right now on Amazon (probably a typo so act fast if you see this). You can then buy the audio for about 4 dollars.

Midnight Mysteries

savingNine best selling authors offer nine cozy tales just in time for Halloween!!! Midnight Mysteries!!! Karen Cantwell and Carolyn Haines just to name two! Grab it while it’s spooky!

Aaaaand, one I know I’ve been waiting for! Frank Tuttle’s latest Markhat mystery is out! Finally!!!! (These are urban fantasy, but they have a lot of cozy elements. LOVE this series.)

savingWay Out West is on sale for $3.44!!!

Couple of nice fonts in CreativeMarket’s freebies this week–and some Halloween illustrations just in time for October!

Cover Reveal: New Tracking Magic

tracking_magic_redo20I’ve needed to update a few covers for a while, but it’s hard to find the time (and the talent. Art in no way comes naturally to me). At any rate, I have finally finished a brand new cover for Tracking Magic. Click the link and check it out on Amazon. I know you are are now wondering what the old one looked like. Well, I’ll never tell. 🙂

Later this week I plan on revealing a new cover for Soul of the Desert. I’m really only tweaking this one a little, and I may need your opinion on just which tweak is better! So stay tuned just in case I need help deciding which one is better!

DragonKin Book Description
Dragons of Wendal Book 2

Drissa needs a place to hide, and she needed it yesterday. Wendal, with its rumors of inhospitable shifters, unknown terrain and wild magic, is not a territory many want to explore, making it the perfect place to disappear. Now, the last thing Drissa needs is to adopt more trouble, but what can she do when it hatches at her feet and then insists she drag it and a half dead stranger to safety? But she’ll do whatever is necessary to survive, because her younger sister can’t wait forever to be rescued. Of course, Wendal and its inhabitants aren’t necessarily interested in her long term plans or her survival.

About the Author

Maria saw her first dragon while gardening. She asked the gnome to take pictures, but dragons are shy and very fast. One of the fairies finally snapped a shot, but just as she handed it over, the dragon came by and flamed it to ashes! Neither of us wants to get our fingers burned a second time so, sadly, there will not be pictures any time soon!

Review: Brown River Queen by Frank Tuttle

BrownRiverQueen72sm Okay, you know I loved Brown River Queen. There is nary a work by Frank Tuttle that I don’t love. He builds his worlds and characters with great care and Brown River Queen is no exception. Markhat’s detecting continues in Brown River Queen. It was delightful to see his interactions with his new bride. She is a great addition to his arsenal of weapons; smart, pretty and quite willing to do her share of sleuthing. 🙂 All my favorites are back in this book: Mama Hog, Banshee, Elis the vamp, the niece, trolls, a surprise appearance by one or two others…awesome. The mystery plot(s) in this one was quite intricate and I did not guess the whodunit. I didn’t even SUSPECT the culprit. Wonderful! I love a multi-layered plot with lots of action and lots of scenes with favorite characters. This series is absolutely magical. If you like mysteries, fantasies or anything in-between, give Markhat the Finder a look.

The first three are in one volume in paperback.

They are also sold stand alone as ebooks and you can’t beat the prices! Here are the titles:

The Mister Trophy
Dead Man’s Rain
The Cadaver Client

For those first three, the order isn’t terribly important (I read them: Dead Man’s Rain, Cadaver Client and then The Mister Trophy). After that order becomes more important and you’ll want to be sure to follow the characters along as they grow.
