Happy Fourth Bargains

A great day to celebrate freedom. Treasure it.

Behind the Scenes or Thirty Years as a Slave When I read various articles on this book, I can’t help but wonder if she thought she was writing good things about her friend–but the world viewed it differently. And the world from her POV would be vastly different from those of her readers.

And a cozy on sale:

Cat Got Your Diamonds Grandeur and opulence are everything in the famed New Orleans Garden District where pets are family and no bling is too big. Opening Furry Godmother, pet boutique and organic treat bakery, is Lacy Marie Crocker’s dream come true–until the glitter gun used to make her Shih Tzu tutus becomes a murder weapon. And Lacy becomes public enemy #1.

Now Detective Jack Oliver is hounding Lacy, and her Furry Godmother investor wants out before his name is tarnished by association. To make matters worse, a string of jewel heists with suspicious ties to the murder case has New Orleans residents on edge. To save her dream, Lacy must take a stand, put her keen eyes to work, and unravel what really happened at her shop that night. But can Lacy sniff out the killer cat burglar in time to get her tail-raising designs on the catwalk?

Cozy Paranormal Bargain

A Mystic Murder

Grace Angelo, born and bred in the small coastal town of Hemlock Cove is a retired detective… and a witch. She works with her two elder sisters at their old guesthouse converted into a bakery — until the body of the local bar owner is discovered inside their oven.

Faced with mounting bills and no way to fulfill the contract for a huge banquet, Grace has her work cut out for her. Using her magical abilities, and the help of her unusual pets, Grace must find the killer and save the family business if she and her two sisters are to have a future in Hemlock Cove.

A Mystic Murder is the first in a new cozy witch murder mystery series by the best-selling mystery author Kennedy Chase. It does not contain any violence, sex, or profanity but instead features teasing clues, a puzzle the reader can play along with, and adorable animals.

Bargain: Mystery by Lee Harris

These look really good–and the first, The Good Friday Murder, is 99 cents right now! I love the solving of very old mysteries.

Christine Bennett has left the cloistered world of nuns for the profane world of New York State, where murder and madness are often linked. At a town meeting, Christine volunteers to investigate a forty-year-old murder case long since closed. Now she’ll move heaven and earth to exonerate a pair of retarded savant twins, now senior citizens, of their mother’s murder on Good Friday in 1950.
Also at Kobo for that great price!

Bargain Cozy Recommendation

Undercover agent “Lucy” writes in to recommend “Death by Chocolate.” The book–not dying that way. Although…never mind.

Lindsay’s only secret is the recipe for her chocolate chip cookies, but she is surrounded by neighbors with deadly secrets. Suddenly she finds herself battling poisoned chocolate, a psycho stalker, and a dead man who seems awfully active for a corpse.

Her best friend and co-worker, Paula, dyes her blond hair brown, hides from everybody and insists on always having an emergency exit from any room. Secrets from Paula’s past have come back to put lives in jeopardy.

Determined to help Paula, Lindsay enlists the reluctant aid of another neighbor, Fred, an OCD computer nerd. In spite of his mundane existence, Fred possesses tidbits of knowledge about such things as hidden microphones, guns, the inside of maximum security prisons and how to take someone down with a well-aimed kick to his chin.

As Lindsay battles the elusive stalker, poisoned chocolate, and the dead man, she will need more than a chocolate fix to survive. But that’s always a good start

Bargains: Mysteries

Checking through new releases for the upcoming week always reveals first in series books that I haven’t read. The Skeletons of Scarborough is a 99 cent bargain and it’s the first in the series. Book two, Mystery at Maplemead Castle, comes out Tuesday.

Scarborough House is haunted, and it’s not doing much for Donovan Scarborough’s investment portfolio. No one wants to buy a place with levitating crockery, or (the wrong kind of) rhythmic pounding throughout the night.

Luckily, Melody “I-See-Dead-People” Bittersweet has just launched her own ghostbusting agency with best friend Marina, geeky, keen Arthur, and a one-eared pug called Lestat. They’re quick to take the case, even if it has already sort of (definitely) been given to Leo Dark, Melody’s rakish, despicable ex.

Melody soon discovers the resident phantoms are three brothers, one who was murdered at twenty, while the others lived to old age. But did the family exile the right person, or did the true killer get away with it?

Donovan Scarborough doesn’t care who solves the case. Whoever gets rid of the ghosts gets paid.

Can Melody and her new crew untangle the mystery, and bring the brothers peace, before Leo? Or will his distracting sexiness and Melody’s bonkers family cause the agency to fall at its first hurdle?

I’ve talked about the No Game for a Dame series before (really fun reads!) and the third book in the series, Don’t Dare a Dame, is on sale for 99 cents today!

Bargain: Cozy Boxed Set

The Maggie Newberry Series is on sale for 99 cents–all three books!

Murder travels nicely in this popular mystery series featuring ex-pat Maggie Newberry who lives in France with her vintner French chef husband. Enjoy the sights and smells of Provence, the CĂ´te d’Azur and Paris as Maggie uses her amateur (and very American) sleuthing skills to detect and confront the vilest murderers on the continent! Check out the series for yourself with the the first three books, bundled together and priced at the cost of less than two books at full price!
Warning: This series is set in France so do NOT read hungry!

Recommended Bargain Cozy: Bed and Breakfast and Murder

Bread and Breakfast and Murder comes highly recommended by one of the readers I follow. Since the price is 99 cents it’s pretty irresistible!

I tried not to look down the mouth of hell staring back at me from inside the glaringly pristine outer ceramic shell of the white throne, my throat catching, stomach doing half flips and a rather impressive rollover routine that would have gotten at least a 9.5 even from the Russian judges. Instead, I forced myself to smile and swallow and remind myself the elbow length yellow rubber gloves grasping the handle of the standard issue plunger were all that stood between me and Pooageddon.

Suck it up, Fee. Big girl panties and adulting and all that.

“At what point,” I waved the dripping plunger, wincing as droplets of yuck flew, “did I think owning a bed and breakfast was going to be glamorous and romantic?”

Bargain Cozy: Meow If It’s Murder

Meow if It’s Murder is on sale today.

Back in her hometown, Nora reconnects with old friends and makes some new ones, like Nick, the charming feline who seems determined to be her cat. But not everything about Cruz is friendly. Writing for a local online magazine, Nora investigates the curious death of socialite Lola Grainger. Though it was deemed an accident, Nora suspects foul play. And it seems that her cat does too.

Apparently, Nick used to belong to a P.I. who disappeared while investigating Lola Grainger’s death. The coincidence is spooky, but not as spooky as the clues Nick spells out for her with Scrabble letters—clues that lead her down an increasingly dangerous path. Whether fate put her on this case or not, solving it will take all of Nora’s wits, and maybe a few of Nick’s nine lives.

Bargain: Cozy Mystery

The Crepes of Wrath 99 cents!

After she stumbles across evidence of stolen goods in Jimmy’s workshop, Marley is determined to find out what’s really going on in the not-so-quiet town of Wildwood Cove. With help from her childhood crush and her adopted cat, Flapjack, Marley sinks her teeth into the investigation. Bargain: Cozy with Cats

Murder in Cherry Hills

Kat Harper has only just returned to her small hometown of Cherry Hills, Washington when she discovers the dead body of her neighbor, Mrs. Tinsdale. Matilda, Mrs. Tinsdale’s orphaned rescue cat, just might be the only eyewitness to the murder. But how do you convince a cat to reveal “whodunit”?
