  1. No, I don’t “need” a new Kindle but I do like that the cover is now an easel cover. I like the larger memory capacity. I like the larger screen. I don’t like that it isn’t pocket size anymore. Overall though it is upgrades and improvements from the current model. I also find it curious in the comparison section they don’t allow a comparison with the current Oasis.

  2. I believe that is because the current one has been discontinued–this will replace it.

  3. Yes, I think so too but for however many thousands or maybe millions who have the current one they might want to see a direct comparison before making a decision.

  4. They don’t want to remind you of how much money you put down on it. They just want you to move on to the newer and greater one!

  5. My problem with the Kindle is the inability to read titles. Way too small. I can’t even read them with my magnifiers. It’s easier to read the titles on my phone than it is on my Voyage. So, until that’s fixed, I won’t be buying a new kindle.

I did get the new 10″ Fire tablet. I’ll put that one on my dining room table for watching TV while I eat and I’ll put my current 8″ in place of my kindle so I can find books to read.

Leo, if I get a cover, I will always get an easel back. But the last cover I got kept turning off my tablet so I don’t bother anymore. I use a book stand from the $ store on my table to prop up my tablet. I also have an easel back cover on my phone.

  6. Husband just bought me a great little stand for my birthday from this etsy seller:
Works great with the kindle and with a tablet.

  7. I’d like to have one because I like the idea of a waterproof one and the advanced audible capabilities but there is no way in deep, dark, hot place I’ll pay that much!

  8. Yeah, they are pricey.

  9. $250?! Holy Hannah! I’ll wait ’til they come down in price — a lot!
Maria, the Kindle stand you got is cute, but it looks kind of bulky to stick in a purse or lug around with your kindle. Is it or is that just the way it looks in the picture?
    BTW — Happy Birthday!
I got an easel cover from Ammie when I got my first kindle (2nd gen keyboard). I love it, but it won’t fit on any other type Kindle. Wish they’d make the connections a bit more generic. I also have an older Nook and would love to find an easel cover for it, but so far no luck.

  10. With the original Oasis having the battery in the cover there wasn’t an easel cover option that I’m aware of. It appears this new one has the battery all in the unit so it can use any cover options. We’ll see I guess.

  11. The cover is a bit bulky for a purse, but light enough you could easily throw it in a suitcase for travel. It sits nice on your chest if you are reading in bed, great on my lap for reading in the chair and it sits on the arm of the chair for viewing football games (old ipad). It also works well holding the kindle in the kitchen on a counter.

Leo, you are correct about the battery. I saw a write up and that was discussed.

Because this one is waterproof, it may take a while for a sale or since it’s their top end, it might not ever go on sale. The only other waterproof machine out there is Kobo’s H2O. It’s in It was in the exact same price range and I don’t think they’ve ever had a sale on it. but it’s 159 right now.

  12. I have loved my Kindle keyboard 2nd generation was worried about it giving up the ghost. Ordered a Paperwhite had nothing but trouble with it and sent it back.Mentioned it to a friend I volunteer with at the library. I got a call from him, (he is a Goodwill shopper) found 2 keyboards for $10. each took home and one didn’t hold the charge the second one white with 3g+Wi-fi and it was like new so I still have the old girl and the newbie! Don’t think I will invest in another. I was very lucky those old keyboards are like workhorses or like the energizer bunny they keep going and going. When I received the Paperwhite my old case didn’t fit it so had to buy another plus the charger everything seems to be separate now. Think I will check to see if they have the easel Dee mentioned, I would like it when I am eating lunch

  13. Is that stand something to do with the etsy betsy spider?
