More Fairy Bite Polls

Based on your input, I worked all day to make improvements to the covers. I’ve changed both them here and there. Hopefully they are now both fit for Fairy Bite. Feel free to offer your opinions by voting again or commenting or both!

  1. As much as I love the gargoyle, I think the owl is a better cover.

  2. What change did you make to the gargoyle cover?

    Comment by Margaret Lake — March 13, 2017 @ 9:44 pm

  3. The owl. It’s even better than the first one.

  4. Love the owl from the left side coming off the spine of the book…..

  5. I like the owl cover better but I voted for the gargoyle because the cover elements looked more consistent with the other volumes in the series, especially the first. But they’re both very good.

  6. The owl again. In the gargoyle cover, I like the gargoyle but the girl, I don’t know.

  7. Following up on Marisa’s comment, I think the girl would look better if she had some kind of rays/blending around her. Sort of a glow like the aftermath of a fairy bite. And instead of the castle in the background, maybe enlarge the gargoyle and superimpose her on the right side of that cute little fella. But keep the skyline background and the title.

  8. The small changes to the gargoyle do improve it, but I still prefer the owl. And you made some drastic changes there that I think make it even more suitable than before, with the focus on the fairy mound.

The owl looks weird now, though, too big. I’d consider dumping the well or changing it’s size so less is seen, but it is more in scale with the owl. The owl could just as well be sitting on a bare branch, if you don’t want to change the well.

  9. Thanks, y’all.

Karen, I think the first version of the “owl” cover is too cluttered to be a decent cover. There’s too much going on that will be one big brown blob in coverland. I focused down in on the parts that people are gravitating towards.

Someone asked what changes I made to the gargoyle one. Since the girl gave people pause, I made her smaller. I added more fog to blend the tower in with the background. I enlarged the author name.

  10. The owl cover is a big improvement over the previous one. I still love the gargoyle (not the girl) so can you sneak the gargoyle into the owl cover?

    Comment by Burgundy Featherkile — March 14, 2017 @ 2:31 pm

  11. Believe me Burgundy, I tried to put the gargoyle in there! But that tends to overwhelm the cover and make it one big crowded blob. I even tried hiding him under the porch…he’s such a great gargoyle and a very befitting one for the book!!!

The only place he fits is where the owl sits. So it is either an owl or a gargoyle, but not both. I can move them around, but they end up competing to draw the eye and it turns into a big mess. Who knows. I have a couple of weeks yet. Perhaps inspiration will hit!

  12. Hmmm… i’d like to see what the gargoyle looks like in place of the owl.

Love the bigger words! But I find that red thing in between fairy and bite distracting. Can it or the words be moved os it’s not right there?

    Comment by Margaret — March 14, 2017 @ 3:42 pm

  13. I like the gargoyle, but I still don’t like the girl. There’s just something “off” about her still. The owl cover looks better now, much less cluttered. The owl is disproportionate, but maybe that fits the story? Anyway, I voted for the owl cover again. It would be great if you could work the gargoyle into that cover, but both the cabin and the well housing look as if they’d collapse under the weight of him, so where could he go?

  14. I’ll back the picture off again and see if the gargoyle will fit in front. I did try him in place of the owl, but he looked pretty awkward up on that little tiny well…resizing him just made him look too small. If I take the title and my name off, everything will fit ever so much better…

  16. Interesting that others who commented didn’t like the ‘fairy princess’ effect. For me the gargoyle worked better this time with this combination.

    Comment by Mary Jo Dawson — March 16, 2017 @ 2:58 pm

  17. Mary Jo, thanks for the input. I agree. The simpler cover works better for me, but there were enough votes for the other, that I won’t ignore that instant gravitation. I don’t care much for the crowded look, but the cool thing with being self-published is that I can try the one cover and if it doesn’t seem to be working, I can change it! And I have a cover in reserve!
