Scamper the Sneak

As you probably read, Scamper came in a few times during the winter when it was cold. Lately, she has been coming in about 5:30 a.m. and after eating, and going in and out a few times, she will settle under the couch for a snooze. Sometimes this means she is gone at 9 a.m. Sometimes she stays in until 1 in the afternoon!

The door can be open or closed; she no longer panics. Of course we let her out as soon as we see that she is up and moving around.

Last night (and the past few nights) both cats seemed to think we run a train station. The comings and goings have resulted in a few scoldings and we’ve even told Junior he cannot go back out a couple of times (after he goes out for thirty seconds and then pops right back in.) Sometime last night after 2 a.m., cats in or out, we shut the door and did not get up to let cats in or out. I had ear plugs in so couldn’t have heard a Scamper even if she asked in her quiet little voice. I knew she might be in, but Husband thought she was out. With all the going back and forth, sometimes we lose track.

At 5:30 a.m. Junior hopped on the bed as he often does and asked to go out. Husband got up, opened the back door and came back into the bedroom. Then he about jumped out of his skin as a small, dark shape scooted past him into the living room. Since Junior was already out, it meant…Invader!!!!

Sure enough, it was Scamper! She hasn’t been in the bedroom before, and we’re not certain where she was when Husband got up to open the door. Perhaps she was tucked into the master bathroom and could not sneak out before he came back. Or perhaps she was hiding in the closet.

Either way, she then sat in the living room looking quite cat-like. Eventually both cats found their way outside and all was restored to normal. That is to say, Junior came back in almost immediately and asked if it was time for treat.

  1. It took long enough, but it seems that Scamper is finally starting to figure out that you and hubby – the suppliers of treats, food, water, furniture, cat trees, toys, and a heated dwelling with rooms to explore – aren’t THAT bad or scary afterall…ha ha ha

  2. Yeah, we’re almost PERSONABLE. Not likeable or anything like that, but possibly TOLERABLE!

    Silly cat.

  3. LOL – Keywords, in Scamper’s mind, being “almost” and “possibly.”
