Parsley

Gardening has been tough this year. Even parsley, which is very easy to grow, has been impossible. The plant from last year (they usually make it two years, easily) died. I seeded about four times in the spring–nothing. I seeded even when it got hotter. Nothing. Finally, knowing it was too hot, I tried indoors. Nope.

My latest attempt was to put a pot outside, but mostly in the shade. I got new dirt, a large pot and put in many seeds. The parsley came up! But…it didn’t seem to be growing and had a kind of smushed look. Well. I think I’ve discovered the problem. At least with this particular batch.

Scamp. You do NOT fit in that pot. And you shouldn’t be in there anyway!

I tell you.

And yes. We got her a cat bed a long time ago. Of course she ignores it.

  1. Looks like a perfect fit to me. Of course, you could try setting an old shoebox nearby as an alternative. :D

  2. Just outside the picture is the cat tower/shelter we built for her and Junior. Next to that, we put a nice rug/towel down where she could sleep slightly hidden, but free to run. So where does she go?? If she isn’t on the parsley, she tucks herself under the grill…

    Cats.

  3. Tell Scamp thanks for making me laugh this morning! Maybe she thought you had to hatch parsley like an egg.

  4. Like an egg, indeed! I haven’t the foggiest idea why she picked that pot as a place to curl up. It makes no sense. She has an entire yard, the garden–all kinds of places and she picks that pot!!! When she falls asleep, one or the other of her legs ends up hanging over the side…it’s ridiculous!

But there she sits. I think she slept all night in there the first morning I discovered the smushed parsley. I couldn’t figure out what had happened to it until later in the day when she plopped herself in there.
I tried telling her that it wasn’t a good idea…

  5. Heh. I love that pic! She’s got a look on her face saying, “I’ll make it work!”

  6. Benjamin–spoken like a true cat lover! You’ll notice she even tucks her tail in there, silly cat. Then when she falls asleep her leg hangs over…just plain silly. But there’s no stopping her. She is what she is.

  7. You want parsley? Move to Oregon. It grows like weeds. Reseeds itself if it dies. But it doesn’t die….ever.

  8. It usually does well here, but the last two years (along with everything else) it’s been dying. Too hot. Not enough water even when I’m watering. The ones in the pot are starting to perk up. I think Scamp hasn’t sat in there for a couple of days. That just means she’ll probably sit in there today…

  9. I so enjoyed reading your little stories of your kitties! ;You are marked in my “favorite things” catagory!

  10. Hi Elizabeth and thanks for stopping by! Yes, those kitties of mine are something else. They’ve been rained in the last few days, which means Scamp hides out in the garage and Junior runs around the living room acting like something is chasing him.

I’m sure they will have more adventures to share, especially as we get some nice fall weather!!
