Guard the Garden

Both cats have been very good about helping guard the garden from birds. I didn’t even have to train them. Of course, Scamper is a natural birder. Then too, both cats like to lie on the nice wet dirt to cool their bellies now that we are having a heatwave. Just the presence of a cat tends to keep the birds from even thinking about landing in the garden.

I was playing “stick” with Junior this morning. Cats are such beautiful creatures, even those deadly claws. They move so quickly. In one fluid motion, Junior can grab the stick and hang onto it. He loves this game and never tires of it. He makes me laugh so long as I don’t get my fingers in the way of those claws.

While we played, I asked him about the onions that had been flattened recently. He was mum. See, there’s guarding the garden. And then there is lying in the onions to cool down. Junior, being Junior, has taken to two different spots right in the middle of the onions. Cat! Get out of the onions! You’re supposed to rest on the nice bricks I put over there for the purpose of guarding and cooling off!

Cats really are beautiful. Even if they do lie in the onions.

  1. Cat nap priorities are very different from ours:
    1. What annoys the humans
    2. What is comfortable for me
    3. Annoys the humans and is comfortable = BONUS!
