Finally, Some Rain
It hasn’t rained in MONTHS here. Today, we finally are getting a decent soaking. I might even get both rain barrels full!!! I did go out and pick even slightly ripe tomatoes–there’s danger of hail…erk! Picked the big prize beefsteak too. It’s a day earlier than I would have liked, but I *really* did not want it full of hailstones. Better to be safe…
We also ate half the first cucumber–VERY good. A few more coming in behind it.
The beans are toast. I pulled up about half the plants this morning before the rain started. Powdery mildew was on most of the plants–that explosion happened all in the last three days. I knew it was starting and while I can keep some of it in check, once it shows up, it’s only a matter of a week unless I want to spray every single day and try to keep the plants alive for perhaps an extra day. Dang stuff.
I’ll have to rearrange the watering system, but I will be able to cut down on the amount of water now that I have a few less plants. We’ve been picking onions as we need them (or as Junior digs with abandon.)
The eatin’s are gettin’ good in these parts!
