Strawberries

I couldn’t grow strawberries in Houston because of the slugs. I didn’t try surrounding them with copper tubing. Supposedly the slugs won’t cross copper. I had better luck with home-made slug traps.

I grew two kinds in the hill country: Everbearing (came out of those early packages where you get 10 per bag, but it didn’t identify exactly what kind of everbearing they are) and a Sequoia.

They did just fine, but in order to have a decent crop you probably need thirty or more plants. I still have a few plants, but have started going to strawberry farms to get my berries. I’ve been to a farm in Marble Falls, Texas and Lexington, Texas–see Sweet Berry Farms. This allows me to get enough berries to freeze for smoothies!
