  1. The half dozen or so cookbooks I own were given to me as gifts.

But my favorite cookbook is the very first one I bought when I moved into my own apt: Better Homes & Garden–you know the one, it’s the three ring binder with the distinctive red plaid cover.

I bought it because my mom has one that she got when she first got married and still uses today.

It’s just a great, basic, all-around cookbook. It’s aimed primarily at the novice, and has, for the most part, simple recipes that have been around for decades.

But my real vice is printing out recipes I find online. I have collected sooooo many recipes that way, and I’ve actually put some in a binder, but most are just thrown into the cupboard. 98% of them I have never prepared. 1% I’ve prepared, but whether I liked the dish or not, never made it again. Then there’s that 1% that I made, liked, and continue to make every so often.

  2. Your cupboard and binder story is partly why I started putting my favorites online–so I can keep track of them. I stopped printing recipes long ago–I just have a huge file on my computer now of recipes I’ve tried, 98 percent that I haven’t, most of them forgotten, but by golly they are THERE! :)

I have a couple of cookbooks like Better Homes. I have the Betty Crocker one and the Joy of Cooking. They have all the basics–some things sure have changed. These days recipes don’t call for as much sugar or things like “lard” or grease! Still, they are staples in the kitchen!!!

I love to cook and I love to eat!!!
