Children’s Retelling – Camden and the Beanstalk

I’m not much for “retellings,” but one of the writers I know published Camden and the Beanstalk not too long ago, and I took a look at it. I fully expected to be bored. I was pleasantly surprised to be wrong!

This is one of those kindle books that is done in full color and sized for the Kindle Fires. It’s a computer rendering with some photos and kind of a neat concept. The best part is that Jeffry Hepple didn’t bother to stick to the typical Beanstalk storyline. There’s some familiar characters, but it manages to be this cute, funny and heartwarming tale. It’s cheap and has plenty of illustrations and enough twists from the original to keep your attention. I think kids and adults already familiar with Jack and his beanstalk will enjoy this alternative story view.
