A Walk in the Woods

We haven’t walked through the woods in a while. Mostly laziness, but early on it was because it was muddy from sprinkles. So today when we wandered back there, we found that the miscreants who build fire pits were at it again. They build a decently protected fire (someone knows how to do it quite well) and then party and leave trash strewn about. I’m not sure if they were disturbed before the party this last time or what, but their nicely arranged logs and kindling were all piled and surrounded by rocks ready to go. It looks like they had at least one other fire there from the ashes. We’ve never seen anyone there, but we tend to walk early in the morning when crooks, miscreants and ne’er-do-wells keep a low profile.

Since it is dangerous to have fires back there due to the possibility of starting not only the woods on fire, but the nearby houses, it was necessary to take the firewood and scatter it randomly through the woods where it would not be easy to find and recover. After most of it was scattered in several directions, I carried two of the largest pieces deep into the woods away from the pit. Okay, the woods are only a square mile so “deep” into the woods was probably not even a quarter of a mile, but I tossed them willynilly into a meadow with long grass on one side and brush on the other. Those logs will not be recovered to burn!!!

The kindling was properly discarded too, although leaves are falling so there is not a shortage of kindling. At least this time we didn’t have to cart trash out of there. They’ll likely be back, probably at night on some weekend. I am pleased to say that they will not have decently cut wood for their project and will have to waste time stealing from the woodpile or cutting their own. May it rain on their parade and rattlesnakes bite their ankles.

Amazon Black Friday Deals

Amazon posted some deals earlier (they were lame) and now they have updated ads and updated deals going on from now until after Thanksgiving. It looks like the main deals probably start November 17. These deals looked a little more intriguing, but it could just be the robot vacuum idea that caught my attention.

There’s also their Kindle Deals of the Day. And wouldn’t you know it’d be the cookbook that caught my eye. 🙂

Bright Lights

Magnetic Clip Lights — LEDs, superbright!

Gifts for Cooks
Measuring cup WITH LID! The lid has slots and a mesh opening as well as a wide opening. I use the mesh one to brew tea! It’s a most excellent cup. I have been wanting one that was microwave safe with a lid forever.

A Really Great Spatula — Silicone spatulas are the best! This one is nice and firm–great for scooping cakes into pans, stirring stir fry, anything! I use this a LOT. (I also have a set of regular silicone spatulas that are very nice, but this one is shorter and fatter.) Great kitchen item!
